Groucho Seville: What the Moustache Club Is Like in Its 19th Season

Groucho is a bar-club in Seville, Spain at Calle Federico Sánchez Bedoya 20, near the Arenal, now in its 19th season. It opens Thursday to Saturday: Thursday is the student night, Friday often brings a live band before the DJ, and the party goes on until 06:00 on Thursdays and 07:00 at weekends, with plenty of reggaeton.

Nineteen seasons with a moustache

The brand is a nod to Groucho Marx: a bowler hat as its emoji, moustaches in its photos and a motto in its bio, 'Good drinks, better people'. Its bio says 'Temporada XIX', so it has been running for nineteen seasons, which in Seville's night is a long time. The 2026-27 season opened on 25 September 2026. Its website still says 'coming soon', so Instagram and its listings are where it tells you what's on.

The week at Groucho

The October 2026 listings show how the week works. Thursday 22 was the 'Opening La Casita de Groucho universitario', the student night, from 23:30 to 06:00. Friday 23 had Meraki playing live and then DJ Jorge Bermúdez, from 23:00 to 07:00. Saturday 24 was a DJ night with DJ Rauw Camero until 07:00. The next week repeated the pattern with a Halloween student night on Thursday 29, billed as a special for student residences, a live band (Mano D'Santo Band) on Friday 30 and Halloween on Saturday 31.

Music: live first, perreo later

Groucho's own captions leave little doubt about the late part of the night: in March 2026 one read 'el perreo, hasta abajo', reggaeton all the way down. Before that, Friday bands play the kind of covers and Spanish pop that get a whole bar singing. It's a place to sing and dance with your group rather than to listen to a DJ with your eyes closed.

Who goes

Thursdays are clearly for students: the nights are literally called 'universitario' and target residences. Fridays and Saturdays mix students with locals who know it from previous seasons. It also has its own Holy Week and April Fair nights, like many central venues. The age depends on the night: for October 2026 its event pages asked for 18+ on the student Thursday and 25+ on Friday 23, both with a smart dress code ('arreglado'). Bring ID and check the age of your date before going.

Hours: a note on old guides

You'll find old guides saying Groucho opens in the afternoon. In October 2026 its listings start at 23:00 or 23:30 and run until 06:00 on Thursday and 07:00 on Friday and Saturday, which matches the legal closing times for clubs in Andalusia (06:00, one hour more on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before a holiday). Trust the current listings, not the old ones.

Student Thursdays and the university calendar

Groucho's Thursdays follow the university year. The 2026-27 student opening was on 22 October, about six weeks after classes started at the University of Seville (7 September) and Pablo de Olavide (14 September), and the Halloween student night came the following Thursday. The University of Seville's first term ends on 18 December 2026 and the second starts on 26 January 2027, so expect the busiest Thursdays in those windows. On Fridays and Saturdays doors open at 23:00 and the night runs until 07:00; there's no need to be there at opening time, but the bar fills quickly once the live band finishes.
